How to Kill Dust Mites with Steam

The Athena AT1 is a highly effective tool for eliminating dust mites in your home. Follow these steps:

1. Fill the steamer with distilled water and let it heat up.
2. Direct the steam nozzle onto areas where dust mites thrive—upholstered furniture, bedding, carpets, mattresses, pillow, and quilt encasements.
3. Move slowly over surfaces, allowing the high-temperature steam (100°C+) to penetrate deeply, killing dust mites instantly.
4. For best results, steam clean weekly, especially when washing sheets and mattress protectors. Combine steaming with regular vacuuming and hot-water washing for a complete dust mite management routine.

How to Kill Bed Bugs with Steam

To effectively eliminate bed bugs at all life stages:

1. Vacuum first using a water-filtration vacuum to remove live bugs and eggs.
2. Preheat the steamer to full temperature—steam at 132°C is lethal to bed bugs.
3. Slowly steam along mattress seams, folds, crevices in furniture, skirting boards, and cracks in flooring. (For a thorough clean, use the optional steam mop attachment for floors and carpets.)
4. After steaming, let the area dry completely.
5. Prevent reinfestation:
   • Wash bedding and clothes in hot water weekly.
   • Use bed bug encasements on mattresses, pillows, and quilts.
   • Place bed bug detectors/traps under bed legs for monitoring.
   • Apply Dreamstate Powder to kill any remaining bugs.
